An industrial floor of 100 m2 renovated in 2 days with a single product: a polyurethane epoxy resin. Can it be done?
In fairly good condition, the floor of this workshop could simply have been “patched” with resin, but the result would have been less aesthetic than a complete renovation.
One of the major advantages of this resin is that it does not require the removal of the existing coating to find the concrete, except in the event of major damage, such as very large cracks, explains the responsible for the implementation.
Whatever the nature of the coating, epoxy or polyurethane resin, or asphalt-gravel mix, all that is needed is surface sanding, cleaning and direct application.
The intervention, simple and quick, makes it possible to limit the suspension of activity, the main factor in the cost of work in the industrial environment, or even not to interrupt activity, in the case of small areas.
100 m2 completed in 2 days
The floor of this workshop, covered with polyurethane resin, dates back ten years.
Here, 100 m2 were completed in two days, for a weekend: one day for the preparation of the support and the treatment of singular points, another for the application of 2 layers of resin. The workshop restarted on Monday morning. In the case of intense attendance, it is preferable to proceed by zones.
The economic benefit (the limited duration of intervention reduces the cost) is doubled by other advantages: little noise, little dust, no unpleasant or irritating odor, no dangerous or flammable product requiring special authorizations.
Suitable for all types of technical rooms
This liquid sealing system can be used in all types of technical rooms. It benefits from a technical opinion which specifies its good resistance to compression, traction (60% elongation) and chemicals.
The elasticity of the product makes it possible, in particular, to resist cracks of 3mm.
The surface showed some damage and dirt due to the handling of machines, drums and traffic.
The use of a vacuum sander limits the production of dust.
Sanding, superficial, is carried out by hand because the surface is reduced.
The epoxy coating, sanded, takes on a white color.
In order to ensure the continuity of the covering in the corners, the ground-to-wall and metal ground-plate readings of the posts are treated by gluing, with resin, a strip of “roving” type glass cloth ( ) 12cm wide.
The waterproofing will be perfect over a height of 10 to 15 cm and will allow the use of chemicals and cleaning the floor with large amounts of water.
The resin is obtained by polymerization of 2 components, without production of VOCs or toxic fumes. It is applied without special protection, by roller, in two coats spaced 4 hours apart.
The first passage highlights the small defects, which are remedied during the second. The final thickness is 1.5mm. For heavy loads, it goes up to 4 or 5mm.
The implementation of the epoxy resin requires scrupulous compliance with the dosages (3/1) and a knack quickly acquired by the technical assistance provided by the manufacturer on site.
After homogenization with an electric mixer, 5 to 10 liters are generally spread in 5 minutes. The open time of the mixed product is 20 minutes.
Gray is one of the colors offered for this resin.
If it is possible to walk on the ground after 5 hours, complete drying takes place after 48 hours.
